Happy Nurses Week: Building A Stronger Nursing Workforce for Tomorrow – Today. #NursesWeek

For over a year, I have been working on a project that has truly challenged and stretched my capabilities in new and exciting ways. I was part of a creative team who partnered with South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) to launch a national brand…and it was a lot of fun.

The for-profit arm of South Carolina Hospital Association previously known as Healthcare Staffing Services (HSS) was rebranded as Qualivis. This rebrand was necessary to further align the goals of HSS positioning the new Qualivis as a national provider of healthcare workforce solutions.

Facebook Community Standards, Health Equity, and SDoH

Facebook just release their new Community Standards outlined here in this link. This is most likely a response to Mark Zuckerberg’s Congressional Hearings early April 2018. One thing that I took away from these proceedings, a critique on the necessity for users to have easy access to their Privacy Settings and also making Facebook’s Terms of Service (ToS) more consumer friendly.

During these proceedings, I called my partner Reed Smith and predicted that Facebook would take their Terms of Service (ToS), rewrite, and make it more consumer facing. Healthcare organizations should be on notice, this is a huge opportunity for growth across the healthcare industry.

Next round of letters to UnitedHealthcare – Continued fight for coverage. #twinslife

Next round of letters with more supporting documentation requesting @unitedhealthcare to consider our appeal to cover George and Henry’s emergency delivery and stay in the @greenvillehealthsystem NICU. BTW, big thanks to Dr. Henry Hearn of @anmed_health for writing supporting letter!! Fingers crossed! #twinslife

Here is my letter to UnitedHealthcare. It is real, it is raw, and it is straight forward.

There are so many families who find themselves in the NICU facing the daunting expenses after an emergency birth. Many are shipped to other healthcare systems during this emergency to receive top-notch care, yet fight the red tape of coverage inside their policies.

It was like a Symphony…South Carolina Systems of Care! #twinslife #nicu

The morning started at 3:30am Saturday, June 10th being awaken by Sarah saying something is wrong. As I rubbed my eyes trying to figure out what was going on, I realized her swift movements to the bathroom indicated I better jump into action. As I ran into the bathroom, I looked at Sarah as tears ran down her face. I knew…I better call Dr. Hearn immediately. I wondered…how did this start.

I have a huge heart for nursing. #TwinsLife #NICU

First of all…I have a huge heart for nursing. My mom and sister are nurses. This image brings me joy, peace, and gratitude to the many nurses who have and are still providing the very best care to George and Henry. Nurse Lynn was giving George a bath and the way she held him, looked at him, cared for him; showcases the amount of care she brings to each child in the NICU. As I read the website for the Bryan Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Greenville Children’s Hospital…I read about the team of experts. Dr. Stewart, Dr. Halliday, and the many physicians have been so wonderful to our family. But I wanted to read about the nurses in the NICU. These nurses give so much of their time, energy, expertise, and daily care for each of the children. We have built special bonds with these nurses. They leave little notes on the boards next to their weights each day. They take time to teach us how to correctly give George and Henry a bottle, give them a bath, change their clothes with so many cords connected, read the monitors that show all the important vitals, and give us hugs when we are discouraged. These nurses bring comfort to Sarah and I as we leave our children each night to sleep 30 miles away. I am thankful to the nurses like Lynn. She represents the heart beat of the NICU, and I truly thankful for the care she provides! #TwinsLife #NICU #Canon #5Dmkiii #yeahthatgreenville

Rosebud’s reaction to each little facial expression. #TwinsLife #NICU

It was so funny to watch Rosebud react to each little facial expression. As she opened the doors to the isolette, Henry was letting out a big yawn. She thought it was the most amazing thing to witness. There is so much fun being reminded to capture, embrace, and celebrate the little moments in time! #NICU #Rosebud #TwinsLife #Canon #5Dmkii

Love seeing Rosebud peeking into Henry’s isolette. #TwinsLife #NICU

I love this picture. I love seeing Rosebud peeking into Henry’s isolette, checking on him this morning. Henry is looking right at her, both staring at each other. They are forming their bond, becoming kindred spirits. I think I will hold this picture for the day when Henry and Rosebud fight for the first time. #NICU #Rosebud #TwinsLife #Canon #5Dmkiii
